About DCU
DCU is one of Ireland’s leading universities with a student population of 19,000 including more than 3,000 international students from more than 120 countries. There are three campuses located on the north of the city on an 85 acre site offering state of the art facilities in a wide range of disciplines including Science and Health, Business, Computing, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences and Education. Students also have access to a large number of clubs and societies which cater for all interests.
Program Structure
ILA Dublin students can register for 4-5 courses per semester resulting in 12-15 US credits. (DCU in common with most European universities uses the ECTS system where each course is worth 5 ECTS credits). Contact hours and meeting times vary; courses may be structured as seminars, lectures, or tutorials. There is also the option to study at DCU for a full academic year. DCU now operates a semester system which allows students choose any course (subject to availability) regardless of the assessments involved. Final examinations take place in December and May.
A full list of courses is available on the DCU website here.
You'll be asked to submit your preferred course selections to ILA Dublin before you leave the US. It’s important to also indicate alternates should some of your choices not be available. Formal registration takes place at a registration session during the first week of the program at DCU. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university to ensure all credits can be transferred back.
